Hey folks! As you can see, some of my posts are missing images and links due to some host issues I experienced recently. I'm working through getting those corrected as quickly as I can. However, if you are looking at a page you'd like me to correct sooner rather than later, drop me a line with the title of the blog post and I will move it up in my list of fixes to make. Thanks for your help!

I’ve been strolling around Flickr these past few days thinking of ideas for a MOC challenge I’m planning on entering next month. (More on that later.) While surfing, I came across the following Friendly Food February Building Challenge on the Heartlake Times blog. I’ve been sitting on two packages of the January promo of the LEGO Creator Flower Cart polybag, with visions of converting it into a piragua cart. With a deadline of the 28th to submit a MOC, this was the exact push I needed.

Carrito De Piragua - Ice Cone Cart

If you’re not familiar with piragua carts, you can find them all over the Old San Juan corridor in Puerto Rico. They usually consist of a little cart with a large block of ice, an ice shaver, and tons of bottles with different flavors of syrup. If you’ve ever seen a Kona Ice truck, it’s kinda the same concept, except on a much smaller scale.

Here’s my MOC of one of my favorite childhood memories. (It’s a happy little coincidence that my version matches in color to the photo of the piragua cart above.)

Every summer, I would spend vacation with my grandmother. My uncle would pick me up and take my cousins and myself to El Escambron. Usually along the park square in front of the beach, you could find a piragua cart calling to all the kids. With tons of island flavors like guayaba, ajonjoli and tamarindo, I always secretly hoped we would stop at one with each outing.

It’s been a long time since I’ve had a piragua, but the time is coming soon where The Little Brick will get her turn at my wonderful childhood memory. I can’t wait to share it with her. For now, she just thinks this is another cute little cart for our town.

Suffice to say I was pretty happy with my little creation. While Mr. Family Brick cleaned it up for me a bit, he was pretty impressed with the outcome of it, too!

What do you think of the piragua cart?

There weren’t a lot of other submissions to the challenge, but if you want to see what else was built, you can visit the Flickr group discussion to see more food cart photos.

If you built a LEGO food cart, what would it be?
