If you’re like us, you spent New Years Eve planning your trip to the LEGO store on New Year’s Day. Picking up newly released sets on January 1st is something we do every year. With so many new LEGO sets released, you’re probably saving your Christmas money, like us, to make a large purchase for the new year.
As you can see this year, we came out with all the other crazy AFOLs to pick up our sets.
We have our eye on a few items, but thought we should share what we know you’ll be able to find in your local stores or on LEGO Shop@Home online. This is an image heavy post, but will be totally worth it!
Sets We (I) Totally Want
Just like you, we don’t always like all of the sets that are coming out every release. For us, there are a few things that truly call our attention and these are those sets… or maybe I should say “I”, since I’m writing this post without input from Mr. Family Brick:
LEGO Police Station (10278) on Shop@Home – $199.99 USD
LEGO Creator Surfer Beach House (31118) on Shop@Home – $49.99 USD
LEGO City Family House (60291) on Shop@Home – $59.99 USD
LEGO Minifigures Series 21 (71029) on Shop@Home – $4.99 USD
LEGO Creator Bonsai Tree (10281) on Shop@Home – $49.99 USD
Big Ticket Item Sets
Looking for the next Millennium Falcon or Ultimate set? Nothing like that for the 1st, but these are the next best sets with big price tags:
LEGO Ferrari 488 GTE “AF Corse #51” (42125) on Shop@Home – $169.99 USD
LEGO Duplo Happy Childhood Moments (10943) on Shop@Home – $99.99 USD
Sets To Modify For Winter Village
We spend most of the year looking at sets to see if they would fit well in our winter village layout. Not very many do, but we’re always able to find a few, like the ones below, which we can convert into winter village sets. These are the ones we think might make nice additions for this year’s village:
LEGO Friends Heartlake City Park (41447) on Shop@Home – $39.99 USD
LEGO City Road Plates (60304) on Shop@Home – $19.99 USD
LEGO Creator Tuk Tuk (40469) on Shop@Home – $9.99 USD

Coming Soon Sets
And finally, while not a set releasing on January 1st, we definitely want to pick up the LEGO Spring Lantern Festival (80107) and the LEGO Story of Nian (80106) on Shop@Home when they release on January 10th:
LEGO Spring Lantern Festival (80107) on Shop@Home – $119.99 USD
LEGO Story of Nian (80106) on Shop@Home – $79.99 USD
I love most things Asian, so this set really calls my attention.
Thanks for the update! I’m definitely getting the Spring Lantern set and the New Year Pandas. I may get several Xtra Chinatown poly bags for a MOC that will match up to my Ninjago City.
I was so tempted to pick up the New Year Pandas. They’re even cuter in person. Oh – and the Xtra bags weren’t there today, so I think they release on 1/10 with the other sets. Have fun!
