Did you hear about the new LEGO store opening at Perimeter Mall in Dunwoody, Georgia this weekend? Normally, I don't normally post anything on Saturdays but wanted to share. We've never been close enough to attend one of these. Felt super lucky to be able to visit last night.
The LEGO store team shared this info with us a few weeks ago. Honestly had completely forgotten about it. Partly because they also asked us to keep it under wraps. Even the LEGO store website itself had not updated with the new information. With no clarity from LEGO directly, I didn't want to be the one to let the cat out of the bag.
However, we were reminded about the opening when we saw a PeachLUG friend post on their Facebook feed. And with it being Friday on Labor Day Weekend, we decided to travel down to the store. Fortunately, there wasn't a ton of 5 o'clock traffic at the time, and the ride only took us 45 minutes.
While it was great to see the new store open, I have to admit we're a bit sad.
Why are you sad?
Well, with the opening of the new store, we had to say goodbye to our old beloved location. For those of you who visited the NorthPoint store at the Alpharetta location, I hate to tell you that it is now closed. That store was were we first fell in love with the winter village theme. It is the store where we attended so many mini build events. It's the store where we just in general hung out with our LUG friends. It's the store where we made good friends of many of the employees over the years.
For us, The LEGO Group deciding to close down the NorthPoint location means the end of an era.
In more practical terms, the new location is a longer distance for us to travel. I know you're probably wondering why we're complaining. But if you've ever tried to get anywhere in the Atlanta area, you know how quickly a short trip becomes a three hour parking lot event.
Ok, enough with the complaining. How's the new store?
Well, it's really great! It is definitely more narrow than the old location, but it is deeper with more stations to play and more shelves for product. The mall itself is very alive and busy, which is definitely a bonus for the store. More foot traffic = more sales. I don't doubt the LEGO business development team did their job evaluating this location because it's a good choice all around.
Awesome! So what can we expect when visit?

For one, hopefully you run into the LEGO Green Brick Guy! We had lots of fun "talking" about which set he would pick if he was purchasing them.

They also have a demo out with the new LEGO Minifigure Vending Machine! Definitely super cute.
And if you're in the purchasing mood this weekend, there are a ton of gift with purchase (GWP) opportunities for you.

Unfortunately, if you didn't catch the opening on Friday, you missed your chance at getting the New Store Opening set that is only available on launch day of a new location.
However, all the other GWPs will still be available:
- Saturday Only: LEGO Store Set - FREE with a purchase of $120 or more
- Sunday Only: LEGO Store Tote - Free with a purchase of $50 or more
In addition, there are these GWP specials you can stack on to your purchase:
- LEGO Tropical Toucan (30688) polybag with a $40+ 3-in-1 Creator purchase
- LEGO Friends Nova's Doghouse Build (30697) polybag with a $40+ LEGO Friends purchase
Finally, PeachLUG is helping The LEGO Group host an event on the other side of the mall. There are a few of our LUG displays available for viewing. At the same time, The LEGO Group setup a large scale mosaic build for you to participate in! You should go down and help them build to commemorate the store opening!

At this free event, you can help The LEGO store build a piece of this mosaic.

You'll get a page with instructions along with a small base plate. There will be tables available that have 1x1 bricks numbered by color. There are PLENTY of small squares to build. Last night, I believe they had only built about 60% of what they needed to complete the mural. So if you're looking to kill some time, I'd definitely stop by and get your building on.
You can find the event on the 1st floor near Von Maur.
This was exciting for us as our first official store opening event - even though we attended at the end of the day.
