Once you get started building a winter village, you’ll probably start thinking “what’s next”. That’s after you build all the available LEGO winter village sets you can get your hands on, of course. The theme is addictive. But if you’re feeling a little short on the ideas, you’ll probably find the Expanding The LEGO Winter Village book handy to fill out your village.
Description of the Expanding The LEGO Winter Village Book
Expanding the LEGO Winter Village Book is a paperback with 151 pages, written by Charles Pritchett of Brick Monster. If you’ve been reading my blog lately, you might find that name familiar. I actually just wrote a post about a winter village cafe build he created.
The description of the book reads as follows:
With EXPANDING THE LEGO WINTER VILLAGE as your guide, you’ll make holiday themed classic vehicles, horse-drawn sleighs, buildings and more! Packed with step-by-step instructions for 6 easy-to-build charming models, EXPANDING THE LEGO WINTER VILLAGE is the perfect family activity this holiday season.
What You Will Find in the Expanding The LEGO Winter Village Book
The book description continues with a list of models you’ll build with the enclosed instructions:
- Town Fountain
- Horse and Sleigh
- Classic Car
- Old Truck
- Photos with Santa
- Ski and Snowboard Shop
He also includes a one-page section on using the book and how to find pieces.
If you’d like to get a closer peek, here are photos I took of the section pages detailing the builds:
The book goes right from showing a finished image of the build into walking you through the instructions.
The detail on the instructions are rather nice. He even outlines pieces in the build you might find difficult in seeing once snapped in.
At the end of each section, there is a list of bricks needed before you get started with the build. While LEGO instruction booklets tend to just show you images with part numbers, he also lists out the part names and specific colors used.
Lastly, some of the builds show alternate color schemes.
Final Thoughts
Overall, it’s a pretty great book. It’s a high quality paperback with a nice binding on it. Great for coffee tables and gifting to your favorite AFOL or TFOL, as it will last for years to come. You get full color pages and detailed instructions, which is super important when it comes to building someone else’s creation.
If you’re a novice to LEGO Winter Village and don’t have much of the current theme, this book is definitely for you!
Having said that, if you already collected most of the winter village theme and the smaller winter themed builds throughout the years, you’ll notice that some of these builds feel “familiar”. You can probably attribute that to the use of similar elements as those used in official LEGO sets.
However, the only thing that truly comes close to being a repeat from the theme is the sleigh. There is already a similar one with the LEGO Creator Santa’s Workshop (10245). Charles does a great job of differentiating his build from what was already in that set.
Novice or old hat, either way, the Expanding the Lego Winter Village Book is a great addition to any LEGO-lover book shelf.
The book is currently available on Amazon for $21.34.
