A few weekends ago, we attended the Maker Faire Atlanta with the DixieLUG group. You may remember me mentioning our exhibit. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect of the event, but let me tell you… it was pretty cool! Just so you know, this is a photo dump post, so it might take a bit to download completely.
We walked the girl around and did lots of “makie” things like made paper, kites, bee honey harvesters, stamps, duct tape art, kaleidoscopes, and more!
However, we weren’t there for making, we were there for LEGO-ing!
If you missed us, here are a ton of photos of our display:
The LEGO Minecraft table was also a hit. We didn’t build the largest Minecraft build ever, but the kids did get to play a lot during the event:
All in all, the LUG had a ton of fun at the event. I’d venture to say we will participate in the event again next year!
And finally, one of the most awesome events of the Maker Faire was a series of battles: human vs LEGO Rubix Cube solving matches! We had 3 very intelligent brothers take a crack at solving a Rubix Cube before the LEGO Rubix Cube Solving machine, built by one of our members (Hi Matthew!).
These kids were amazing and while 2 of them got really close, only one (the little boy in the orange shirt) was able to solve the Rubix Cube before the LEGO machine. The video above isn’t the one where the boy won over the machine, however, you can get a look at just how fast these boys were and how close they came to beating it!
November 2016 DixieLUG Meeting
If you’d like to join us at the next DixieLUG meeting, you can meet with us November 19th, 2016 at the East Cobb Library, 4880 Lower Roswell Rd, Marietta, Georgia 30068. We’ll be there from 1PM to 5PM. Plan on bringing a Thanksgiving or Christmas holiday MOC that fits on a 32 X 32 baseplate to show off!
Can’t wait to see you there!
