Description of The LEGO Batman Movie: The Essential Guide Book
This is a hardback book with some nice weight to it. It comes with a total of 68 pages and is targeted for kids grades 2-5.It’s almost large enough to stand in as a coffee table book, but it’s a little shy on the size and pages. While not completely a reader book, it can still be used to encourage those reluctant readers with a topic they enjoy.
Here is the description from the publisher, DK Publishing:
The perfect companion to LEGO Batman’s first solo movie, TheLEGO® Batman™ Movie: The Essential Guide showcases the full range of exciting LEGO Batman sets and minifigures that will be released to tie in with the film’s release. Heroes, villains, vehicles, and locations are all explored in classic DK style, with lively and informative nonfiction text to annotate and expand upon lavish reference images of LEGO Batman sets and scenes from the movie.
What You Will Find in The LEGO Batman Movie: The Essential Guide Book
The cover page is indicative of the type of imagery you’ll find through out. The pictures are very vibrant. They did a great job in that area.
The book is split up into 28 chapters. This isn’t a book you have to read in order from start to finish, so you can jump to whatever chapter calls your attention.
Once you go to a section, you’ll see lots of little tidbits and facts about the movie and the characters. Here are the sample pages provided by the publisher:

My Take on The LEGO Batman Movie: The Essential Guide Book
While DK Publishing calls it “The Essential Guide”, it definitely isn’t. Kids with smaller tolerance levels for reading may certainly feel that way, but most adults won’t. Since it is geared towards kids, it feels like there is no rhyme or reason to the book chapters and the order of topics is sporadic. I’m sure one of the objectives was to try and keep a child’s attention span for as long as possible and it seemed to do that for my daughter. Of course, it could be read by an adult in just a few short hours, provided the jumping around on the page doesn’t tax their patience. (Again, we are not the target market.) Otherwise, the publisher did a nice job putting it together and the pages are fun to look at.
The LEGO Batman Movie: The Essential Guide is a fun addition to any child’s LEGO library.
If you have a kid who loves LEGO, they will probably love this book to bits. If your kid is not a reader, but loves LEGO, they will probably love this book to bits, too! If your an adult LEGO lover, you may want to pass.
