Put LEGO Everywhere with LEGO Tape!

Unless you’ve been living under a rock this whole weekend, you’ve probably seen the crowd funded LEGO tape idea running around on Facebook. I had 4 or 5 friends PM me and tag me in posts for this awesome new idea. (I love you guys!)

Overview of LEGO Tape

So for those of you haven’t seen it, here’s a quick overview of the soon to be made LEGO tape:

Here’s the overview of the product from Nimuno’s IndieGoGo page:

Imagine being able to build around corners, on curved surfaces, or even onto the sides of that sailing ship you’ve just spent hours building. You forgot to engineer a point of attachment for that sweet dinosaur-smashing cannon? No problem. Snip a length of Nimuno Loops, stick it on the hull, mount your cannon and be on yarr way.  Compatible with LEGO® Blocks, Mega Bloks, Kreo and most major toy building block systems. A whole new universe of possibilities when constructing with Nimuno Loops!

Is this a certified LEGO product?

No, it is not. As you guys know, I like to stick with strictly LEGO on this blog. However, with so much awesomeness, I couldn’t help but give it a plug.

The creators, Max Basler and Anine Kirsten, originally intended to raise $8,000 USD so they could pay for the tooling, packaging dies and services needed to get the product manufactured, packaged and shipped. However, since the world is basically gaga over LEGO, their new invention went viral and blew way past their initial funding request to the tune of over $1.3 million dollars with over 35,000 backers worldwide.

What is my initial investment?

While most of the super cheap options have already been purchased, you can still pick up LEGO tape at a decent price. The least expensive option right now is 2 rolls of tape for $13USD + shipping. If 2 rolls isn’t enough, you could go as far as purchasing 1050 rolls of tape for $3,000USD + shipping. That’s probably not for the average Joe, but if you’re a store, I highly recommend jumping on this bandwagon. Word on the web is ToysRUs is trying to work out a deal to carry the tape exclusively for 60 days on first release. If you’re trying to make money off of this product, this would be the way to do it.

If we fund, when can we expect the first shipment of LEGO Tape?

According to the IndieGoGo site, the first rollout is scheduled for July 2017. However, if you purchase at this point, you would be in a second wave which delivers August 2017. Here’s the catch, if you’ve ever seen an overfunded project, most inventors have a hard time scaling due to the pre-success of the product. This makes them miss deadlines left and right. (We can attest to that with the Brixo project, of which we are backers.)

If you fund, don’t expect the deliver of the product to be on time. You’ve been warned.

Shut Up and Take My Money! Where Can I Buy this Awesome LEGO Tape?

Right now, it’s still being crowdfunded. So while you can’t go into a store and purchase the tape directly, you can help the creators fund their project. Visit Nimuno’s IndieGoGo page to purchase one of the funding packages and get in line for your own LEGO tape once it is produced!

I plan on funding today. Are you going to get LEGO tape for yourself, too? Or are you going to pass?
