The LEGO Batman Movie DK Readers – Level 1 & 2 Reader Book Reviews

We’re almost half way through summer vacation in these parts and I know of you may be ready to get those kiddos back to school! (I know how it is… I used to work from home, remember? After the two-week “vacation-moon” is over and they start repeating the “Mom!” and “Dad!” call, it can be exhausting.) If you’re simply trying to get the kids to leave you the heck alone, you could always suggest a little entertaining reading in the form of The LEGO Batman Movie DK readers level books.

Fortunately, if you’ve never seen these types of books, DK Publishing was kind enough to send me a copy for The Little Brick to read and share her thoughts. However, as the school year progressed, we’ve realized she’s actually moved past the levels in this book. Try as I might, I couldn’t get her to read them. She just wasn’t interested, but more about that later…

Just so you know, this post does contain affiliate links, but you guys are old hats with that kind of stuff, right? No sweat off your brow. ;)

So, without further ado, here are two mini reviews of The LEGO Batman Movie DK readers level books!

But First, A Note to Parents on The LEGO Batman Movie DK Readers Level Books…

If you’ve never come across level books, you’ll start seeing them all over the place as your kids move into elementary school.  DK Publishing is kind enough to give you a walk-through on how to use these books in the intro section of each one:

The LEGO Batman Movie DK Readers - Level 1 - LEGO Team Batman

If you can’t read the image above, this is what it says:

THIS BOOK is part of an exciting four-level reading series for children, developing the habit of reading widely for both pleasure and information. This series is designed in conjunction with leading literacy experts, including Dr. Linda Gambrell, Distinguished Professor of Education at Clemson University. Dr. Gambrell has served as President of the National Reading Conference, the College Reading Association, and the International Reading Association.

Beautiful illustrations and superb full-color photographs combined with engaging, easy-to-read stories to offer a fresh approach to each subject in the series. EAch DK Reader is guaranteed to capture a child’s interest while developing his or her reading skills, general knowledge and love of reading.

The four levels of reading books are aimed at different reading abilities, enabling you to choose the books that are exactly right for your child:

Level 1: Learning to read
Level 2: Beginning to read
Level 3: Beginning to read alone
Level 4: Reading alone

The normal age at which a child begins to read can be anywhere from three to eight years old. Adult participation through the lower levels is very helpful for providing encouragement, discussing storylines, and sounding out unfamiliar words.

No matter which level you select, you can be sure that you are helping your child learn to read, then read to learn!

We’ve always found level books to be a great tool for our kid when trying to help her gain confidence in reading independently. I’m sure many of you will find success with this method, too.

Bottom Line

If you read the rest of the review, you now I’m a fan of level books. My intention was to have The Little Brick read these and let me know what she thought, but she’s at the point where she’s reading more advanced books. These just don’t draw her attention.

Now, that doesn’t mean these books aren’t good for their intended audience. The Little Brick has a friend who stops by often and loves these books. He is at the right level where they draw his attention and are challenging enough to keep his interest and make him feel accomplished. When trying to get a kid to love reading, that’s a win-win in my book!

So, at the right level, these are awesome books.
